Mogwai at Webster Hall 6/15/12
After at least two different cancellations — the first from visa issues that prevented them from entering the country; the second from an illness to a member of the band — Mogwai finally played the NYC area with shows at Webster Hall for the first time in some time. And although their instrumental material roared and buzzed vehemently, there was something a bit off with the set. With little stage banter or much of an introduction to the songs, I never got a sense that the band connected well with the audience or even warmed themselves up to the audience. As a live experience, it was kind of underwhelming.
I was invited to catch Los Encantados play a set at the Charleston as part of the Northside Festival, and it made it an even longer night of music — photos from that part of my night are coming.
